New catalogue of fire retardant coatings for wood

We present the update of our 2025 fire retardant coatings catalogue, incorporating decisive technical innovations for architects, builders and building professionals. The main novelty is the introduction of flame retardant treatments for exterior wooden facades. Along with new formulations with European B-s1,d0 and C-s1,d0 classification, which considerably expand the possibilities for architectural design with wood in contemporary projects.

The evolution of our IRUFIRE range

Our indoor processes have reached a new level of technical development, transforming untreated wood from its natural D-s2,d0 classification to the demanding B-s1,d0 classification. The IRUFIRE REAL & INTEGRAL B-s1,d0 PUR system, available in a variety of finishes, has established itself as the benchmark for architectural cladding where fire regulations are more demanding, especially in hospitality, education and hotel projects.

Fire retardant coatings for wood

IRUFIRE AQUA aqueous formulations represent a significant advance for on-site execution, completely eliminating odours during application and providing significantly reduced drying times. This feature is particularly valuable in refurbishment and renovation projects where business continuity is essential.

The real revolution in the 2025 catalogue comes with IRUFIRE REAL & INTEGRAL C-s1,d0 AQUA EXT, the first fire-retardant system we developed specifically for outdoor wood facades. This treatment improves the classification of the substrate from D-s2,d0 to C-s1,d0, opening up new possibilities for the design of wooden facades and exterior cladding that until now presented regulatory limitations in many architectural projects.

For flooring, IRUFIRE REAL FLOORING Bfl-s1 AQUA is specifically formulated for wooden parquet and decking, achieving the Bfl-s1 classification required in commercial, educational and residential projects where compliance with fire regulations on floors is mandatory.

Technical advantages that make the difference

All our fire retardant varnishes and processes are formulated without halogenated compounds, eliminating the generation of toxic gases during a fire. This critical technical feature is essential in building projects where occupant safety is a priority and where architects and builders must ensure compliance with the most stringent regulations.

The Euroclass classifications according to EN 13501-1 achieved by our products significantly facilitate the processing of projects and building permits, providing professionals with the technical documentation necessary to justify regulatory compliance with the competent administrations.

The acrylic formulations resist degradation by UV light, preventing yellowing of the finish over time. This performance, together with excellent adhesion and the possibility of obtaining a multitude of opaque colours, is essential for architects who specify durable and aesthetically consistent finishes for their projects.

Compatibility with professional spraying equipment such as airless and airmix optimises on-site execution times, which is crucial for builders working to tight deadlines and needing to ensure the productivity of their application equipment.

Applications in the construction sector

In residential construction, our treatments allow the incorporation of wooden façades, interior cladding and flooring while maintaining the regulatory compliance required by the Technical Building Code. For hospital and educational architecture projects, we provide solutions that facilitate compliance with the specific regulations of these sectors.

The hotel and catering sector finds in our fireproof varnishes the possibility of maintaining the natural aesthetics and warmth of wood in interior cladding, while simultaneously complying with the demanding fire safety regulations that characterise these establishments.

For public infrastructures such as airports, stations and municipal facilities, where fire safety reaches maximum levels of demand, our products provide the necessary technical guarantees for their specification in these critical projects.

Sustainability and responsible construction

Our aqueous formulations contribute to the certification of sustainable buildings, an increasingly relevant aspect of contemporary architectural projects. Optimal compatibility with wood, the only truly renewable building material, supports the circular construction and carbon footprint reduction strategies demanded by both emerging regulations and environmental awareness in the sector.

All our processes have been tested to EN 13238 in accredited laboratories such as AFITI and FCBA, providing full technical documentation that facilitates specification in projects and ensures compliance with local and sectoral regulations.

The future of wood in architecture

The updated IRURENA 2025 catalogue responds directly to the current needs of architects and builders seeking to integrate wood into their projects without compromising regulatory compliance. The incorporation of specific façade treatments significantly expands the possibilities for architectural design, allowing solutions that previously presented technical or regulatory limitations to be explored.

The combination of certified fire protection, ease of on-site application and environmental friendliness positions the IRUFIRE range as the undisputed technical reference for professionals specifying high-performance fire protection solutions, contributing to the development of more sustainable architecture without compromising on safety or construction quality.
